Currently in storage at the Broomloan maintenance depot, and not generally accessible to the public, Motor Car 55 was withdrawn from service after the modernisation of The Glasgow Subway in the late 1970s. It had played its part in establishing The Glasgow Subway as an essential part of city life after The Subway opened in 1896. This car must have transported many thousands of commuters from all walks of life during its service which spanned two world wars, a few cultural revolutions, and changes in industrial fortune.

This particular Motor Car entered service in 1901 as a Cable Traction car, was converted to Electric Traction in November 1935, had solid doors fitted in 1960, and had its last day in service on 21st May 1977. (Appendix 5, "Circles Under The Clyde" by John Wright and Ian Maclean)
