The PS Waverly is the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world. It was built on the Clyde in 1947 to replace the original Waverly that was sunk off Dunkirk in 1940 during The Second World War.

The Waverly now sails regularly around the West of Scotland based in The Firth of Clyde, and in England around The Bristol Channel, The Solent and the River Thames.

A rebuild completed in 2003 restored The Waverly in a style sympathetic to the 1940's, using the shipyard skills of yesteryear, such as riveting the steel plates, laying 3 miles of traditional wooden decks, and erecting new wooden masts. The main engine and paddle wheels have been completely stripped, overhauled and rebuilt. Amazingly, the engine room is open on two sides, and passengers can view the substantial pistons and cranks which drive the paddles. A real masterpiece.
