Founded in 1897, the Reid Gear Company Limited has had a history of world wide trade in precision heavy engineering, supplying parts and products for a variety of machines and applications from the steam age to the present day.

However in a changing world the company is closing before the end of this year, 2008.

The business grew from roots associated with the early mills of Paisley, through deck and steering equipment for sailing ships and steam ships, gears and gearboxes for the Clyde engineering industries, then into engineering for any industry that required precision made parts, such as present day sugar processing and steel production.. The present owner, Thomas Reid, is selling up, ending a long running family business.
